India is a federal republic with a parliamentary democracy. The country is divided into 28 states and 8 Union Territories.


The states and union territories are further divided into districts, which are the administrative units responsible for implementing various government policies and programs at the grassroots level.


Each state has its own elected government and governor, and is further divided into different administrative divisions such as divisions, districts, sub-divisions, and talukas.


The Union Territories are administered by an administrator appointed by the President of India, and some of them have a Legislative Assembly as well.


The 28 states of India are: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.


The 8 Union Territories are: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Delhi, Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
